Welcome to the first CS Community Updates

06/01/2026

June 2026 newsletter: pool and amenities reminders, financial corner, bylaw vote, upcoming maintenance dates, and safety tips.

Community updates visual for Craigleith Shores owners.

Hello. I am your new volunteer communications representative from Craigleith Shores. I will update residents and owners with information from our Board of Directors and Shore to Slope on a quarterly basis.

This is a shorter edition to get started. The newsletter will go out on the first day of every season. Watch your inbox for the first Welcome to Summer news.

I want to thank our Board of Directors. They work tirelessly behind the scenes with little recognition. The intention of this newsletter is to bridge the gap and improve communication so owners gain a clearer view of their efforts and, hopefully, feel encouraged to get involved.

Let’s get started.

Community and property updates

  • The pool is open and warm. Adult-only swim times are 8 AM to 10 AM and 5 PM to dusk (ages 18 and older).
  • Pool reminders: there is no daily cleaning staff for the pool area and washrooms. Please help keep the area clean. No food or snacks on the deck. Children under 14 must be supervised by an adult at all times. Limit chair time to about an hour when the pool is busy. Review the pool rules before entry.
  • The sauna must be booked online before use. Log in to the Craigleith Shores portal to reserve a time, and share this with renters in your unit.
  • The new bike shed is available. Bike registration on the portal is coming soon. A deposit will be required for an exclusive key, along with a registration form so inventory can be controlled.
  • The outdoor fire pit is available. Bring your own firewood and extinguish the fire before leaving.
  • Propane or charcoal BBQ use is no longer permitted. Residents are encouraged to arrange a gas line hookup or use an electric BBQ. See Important news regarding bylaws below.

Financial corner

  • The Board of Directors met Wednesday, June 3 to finalize the budget. More details will follow.
  • This section will also cover reserve fund progress, upcoming projects, and expenses.

Important news regarding bylaws

Have you voted yet?

At the AGM it was noted that the Corporation has been paying for a growing number of owner and renter errors that cause damage and unrest. Those costs reduce the reserve fund and slow future plans. Examples include:

  • Flooding from second-floor units: five reported incidents that damaged units below and/or common areas.
  • Legal fees for protecting residents.
  • Legal fees for enforcing animal bylaws. If a renter damages the exterior of the building or common areas, the corporation currently pays for repairs.

These issues have cost the corporation more than $80,000 from the reserve fund, plus significant time from volunteer Board members.

Why vote in favour of these bylaws?

  • If a resident causes an accident and is at fault, they should pay for repairs, not the corporation.
  • If a resident does not follow the rules and causes a disturbance that requires legal help, the parties involved should pay, not the corporation.
  • If a resident needs emergency medical assistance and immediate unit access is required, the owner should pay for entry damage, not the corporation.
  • Propane is not permitted inside buildings, so second-floor units cannot use propane. If a resident does not comply and causes a fire or BBQ accident, the corporation is currently responsible.

That means all owners — the corporation, and you — currently pay for others’ mistakes. Passing these bylaws promptly would shift liability to the parties responsible. If you have not voted yet, please do so today.

  • The GCC12 bylaw vote form is available in the Shore to Slope portal. Hard copies are in the lobby. Sign and return to Shore to Slope.

Dates to remember

  • June 4 — exterior siding spraying. Keep windows and doors closed during the work period. Remove items from balconies or areas next to exterior walls where possible. Be mindful of crews around the building. There may be minor noise and water spray; thank you for your cooperation.
  • June 8 — exterior spider spray.
  • June 11 — windows sprayed.
  • Grass spraying — date TBA.
  • Fall AGM — date TBA.

Safety tips

Please park fully within the lines in the parking lot. Vehicles parked over the lines often block grounds crew from cutting grass.

Parking lot example showing a vehicle that should reverse behind the painted lines.

Example: please reverse so the vehicle sits behind the lines.

  • Lock your storage units.
  • Move BBQs away from the siding before use.
  • Be careful with our aging septic system. We are not connected to the municipal sewer. Use septic-safe toilet paper and do not flush anything else down toilets or sinks.
  • Want to save energy? For air conditioning or gas fireplace/BBQ line upgrades, Craigleith Shores has a preferred vendor, Affordable Comfort.

All property issues should be directed to Shore to Slope.
